This five week class is intended to get the basics firmly in place and leave room for each artist to incorporate their own style and medium once they have completed the class. All aspects of painting a cat with pastels will be explored, following the same outline as the dog class, including image selection, initial sketches and rough drawings, using pastels as a medium and ultimately capturing the animals personality. Students who have taken the Dog Pet Portraits workshop may choose to sign up for the full 5 weeks of this workshop or, if confident about what they have learned in the Dog Pet Portraits workshop, may begin with the third week of Cat Pet Portraits, where they will learn specifics about painting long fur, unique patterning and idiosyncrasies of feline subject.
A supply list and photo reference will be sent to students prior to class. Some supplies will be included in the class, others will be the responsibility of the student.

The Pet Portrait market has had phenomenal growth. The pet industry never wanes, even in times of economic downturn. But in a city like Seattle, where the dogs outnumber children to the tune of "around 153,000 dogs to 107,178 kids, according to Seattle magazine (which got its numbers from the US Census and Seattle Animal Shelter*)" it is no wonder the few pet portrait artists in town are booked through the next full year at a minimum.
