Class Details: In this session we will explore a way to keep track of how your garden grows through the seasons in your sketchbook or garden journal. Year after year, I think I will remember what I planted, its name, how tall it grew and whether it liked sun or shade. And each new growing season, I realize I have forgotten it all, again. Let's organize all those notes, utilizing a "phenology wheel". A what kind of wheel? Phenology is nature’s calendar—charting when cherry trees bloom or when a robin builds its nest and when leaves turn color in the fall. Together we will create a way to remember all the stages of one plant, seed to blossom, or the whole garden and when each plant reached maturity or what animals and birds came to the garden and when. The example here charts the phases of the moon, which can be helpful for planting your garden. In the class demonstration, we will look at how to chart the cycle of growth of one or several plants.
Not only informative, a phenology wheel can also be a thing of beauty that is an excellent way to record how your garden grow's and when to begin next year's garden.
